Bacterial Disease
Bacterial speck can be issue during cool wet conditions causing small leaf spot sine early stages of production. The lesions are brown in color with or without a yellow halo around it. Water-soaking of the margins of the leaves can be seen as primary symptom, but this could also be a symptom associated with other bacterial diseases. Bacterial speck lesions can be seen also on stem with a significant number of lesions during high disease severity. The lesions can be circular or irregular in shape.
The disease can also cause symptoms on sepals as seen in this case. Lesions may also noticed on peduncles, pedicles and fruits. The fruit lesions tends to be raised or flat similar to bacterial spot lesions. Lower canopy is primarily affected causing severe leaf spots and blighting. The bacterial pathogen is seed-borne, and can be easily be spread by wind-driven rain, and survive on volunteers.
Bacterial speck is caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato. It primarily affects tomato and a number of weeds, and is the most common disease of tomato that is caused by a bacterial pathogen. The disease is favored by low temperatures and high moisture.
