Cucurbit Chlorotic Yellows Virus (CCYV) is a significant disease affecting cucurbit crops, with whiteflies serving as its primary vector. The disease can cause severe damage to plants and reduce crop quality and yield.

Symptoms:

  1. Leaf Yellowing: One of the hallmark symptoms of CCYV is the yellowing of leaves, with the veins remaining green, creating a distinct contrast.
  2. Leaf Burn and Drop: As the disease progresses, leaves turn dark brown with a burned appearance at the margins. Eventually, these affected leaves may drop off, leading to significant defoliation.
  3. Plant Stunting: Plants infected with CCYV often exhibit severe stunting, affecting their overall growth and productivity.
  4. Watermelon Flesh Discoloration: In watermelon, CCYV can cause internal discoloration of the flesh, resulting in yellow or white patches. This affects the marketability of the fruit.
  5. Misshapen Fruits: Fruits may also become misshapen, further reducing their commercial value.

CCYV is often observed in conjunction with other virus infections, complicating diagnosis and management. Effective control measures include managing whitefly populations, using resistant varieties, and practicing good field sanitation.
